An Enlightening Journey: Introductory Lectures on Buddhism
Whether you are curious about Buddhism in general or specifically interested in Nichiren Shoshu teachings, these meetings are a wonderful place to start.
Myosenji Temple will host two introductory lectures to Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism this month – Sunday April 21 and April 28. These meetings are a great opportunity to learn more about the core principles of Buddhism, its benefits, and how to practice in daily life.

Visit Myosenji Temple to hear Chief Priest Rev Sakabe share how you can awaken and gain a new perspective on karma and the world around you. The signs of your Karma are present in your life but you haven’t noticed them yet. These signs could be in your circumstances, relationships, or even your own thoughts and feelings. Your actions have ripple effects that extend beyond yourself.
Karma encompasses both positive and negative aspects, capable of opening opportunities, alleviating suffering, and creating joy, as well as disrupting, damaging, or taking control of one’s life. Every individual in this world possesses both positive and negative karma. Our only option is to confront and overcome our karma in order to attain peace and happiness in life.

Yesterday, our Chief Priest, Rev Sakabe, conducted the Otanjo-e Ceremony, to celebrate our Founder, Nichiren Daishonin’s birthday. It is a tradition to offer food to the Buddha. For this ceremony, a special celebratory dish was offered called “Sekihan” in Japanese. It uses red rice because Japanese regard red as a joyful color. The dish is made with red rice and beans.
Nichiren Daishonin, the founder of Nichiren Shoshu in 13th century Japan, received many food offerings from believers. We know this because of the many personal Gosho letters he sent to believers thanking them for their food offerings.
This emblem is a sacred symbol to Nichiren Shoshu tradition. Out of respect for this tradition, Nichiren Shoshu believers do not use it for personal use on social media channels or in any other ways.

Sunday February 18, 2024 – Buddhism’s Ten Worlds (In-Person & Online)
Visit our Temple (In-Person or Online) this SUNDAY January 28, 2024, for a brief lecture by our Chief Priest, Rev Sakabe about the essential teachings and practice of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism. The meeting starts at 2:00 pm and concludes around 3:15 pm. (IN-PERSON or ONLINE).
We all want to become happy, stronger and more resilient in our daily life. Yet our worries cause us suffering. Uncovering and revealing the world of Buddhahood is the fundamental source for attacking the root cause of suffering in human life, and for resolving every possible form of distress. To learn what “Buddhahood” means and how we can achieve this life condition in our own life, in our current environment, you need to understand what the core beliefs are in Buddhism.
If you will be coming to the Temple, please arrive in enough time to sign in and get situated in the main Sanctuary. The meeting begins at 2:00pm. Our Live Stream will open at 1:50pm Sunday, January 28th.*

If you have decided to become a Buddhist or are interested in learning how to become a Buddhist, after Sunday’s meeting (about 3:30 pm) Rev Sakabe will be performing the Acceptance of the Precept Ceremony, the ceremony where you become a Buddhist.
