Buddhism: Using Earthly Desires to Achieve Happiness

This path will enable people to become Buddhas even without separating themselves from mundane desires.

written by Nichiren Daishonin in 13th century Japan

People immersed in the three poisons of greed, anger and stupidity can immediately transform themselves, as entities of delusion, into the manifestations of purity, the most supreme enlightenment of the True Buddha, without first discarding their desires or eliminating their greed, anger and stupidity. The key lies in the essence of the mystical doctrines of the Lotus Sutra, the Three Great Secret Laws of the True Buddha Nichiren Daishonin.

Lecture on Ten Worlds

Our Chief Priest will be lecturing Sunday, February 5th on the Buddhist Concept of the Ten Worlds, explaining how to use earthly desires to achieve happiness. Rev Sakabe will discuss the significance of the Ten Worlds, teach you how to properly use the Juzu beads (Buddhist prayer beads). Then you will have the opportunity for a Q&A session. The meeting begins at 2:00 pm and ends about 3:15 pm.

If you have decided to become a Buddhist or are interested in learning how to become a Buddhist, after Sunday’s meeting (about 3:30 pm) Rev Sakabe will be performing the Acceptance of the Precept Ceremony, the ceremony where you become a Buddhist.

If you have any questions, please email or call the Temple.
