Buddhism, Mother’s Day & the Lotus Flower

Lotus July 9 2013

In America, the tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day began over a a hundred years ago. Today, flowers are often the gift of choice to let mothers know they are appreciated. In Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, there is one flower that carries great significance – the lotus flower.

Consider giving your mother a lotus flower this Sunday. You can share your Buddhist practice with her and explain the symbol of the lotus flower – simultaneity of cause and effect.

Happy Mother’s Day!
