Buddhism: It’s Your Karma, Take Control

If the people are filled with joy, a good omen will manifest in the heavens, and the Heavenly King Taishaku will work to protect the people in the land. On the contrary, if the people have strong evil minds, unusual occurrences will manifest in the heavens, and natural disasters will occur on earth.

written by Nichiren Daishonin, 13th century Japan

Buddhism teaches that all human suffering or pleasure is based on a realistic law of cause and effect, and is determined by
each individual’s karma. And, we are freely able to change our future lives through our causal actions in this lifetime. For this reason, the view of karma is totally different from the view which posits that our lives are determined by an absolute being like a god, and from the theory of destiny, which expounds that life is just coincidental.

Lecture on Karma and Your Happiness

Visit Myosenji Temple this Sunday, June 25th, for a brief lecture on Karma by our Assistant Priest, Rev Kondo. You will also learn why it is important to understand that you can take control of your Karma and change your life through the Buddhist practice of chanting.

  • Learn how to chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo and properly use the Juzu Beads, Buddhist prayer beads.
  • Q&A with our Assistant Priest.
  • The meeting starts at 2:00 pm and concludes around 3:15 pm. Open to the public.

If you have decided to become a Buddhist or are interested in learning how to become a Buddhist, Rev Kondo will be performing the Acceptance of the Precept Ceremony, the ceremony where you become a Buddhist, immediately following the meeting.
