Arrogance, negligence, egotistical judgment, shallow understanding, and attachment to earthly desires are just a few of the Fourteen Slanders—attitudes that obscure the truth. Our Buddhist practice makes honest self-reflection possible. Join us for Sunday’s Chief Priest introductory lecture on Buddhism’s Core Beliefs & Practice.

Have you ever looked at a beautiful lotus flower and wondered how it can be so pristine, so perfect, when it grows from the muck and mud of a pond? This unique quality is not just a biological curiosity; it is a profound and beautiful metaphor for life itself. Just as the lotus transforms its muddy environment into a source of nourishment to produce a brilliant flower, we too have the power to transform our own suffering and challenges into a source of growth and happiness.

Buddhism explains that this world is not easy. The Lotus Sutra uses the parable of a burning house to illustrate how we are deluded with endless desires causing our sufferings. The way to change your karma, your life condition, is to get out of the lower six paths (hell, hunger, animality, anger, humanity and rapture). Chief Priest Rev Sakabe will explain these worlds and how to elevate yourself to the four noble paths through Buddhist practice. Visit Myosenji Temple for our July 2025 Introductory lectures.
